Kenwood TS-940S Power Supply Capacitor Replacement Kit
This is a complete electrolytic capacitor replacement kit for the
power supplies of the Kenwood TS-940S
. Electrolytic capacitors have a design life span and deteriorate with age, usage, and heat or a combination of all three.
I have been running into more and more power supply related problems as the 940 ages. The power supply of the 940 has two massive 22000uf 50V caps filtering the +28V line, an AVR (automatic voltage regulator) board, and a DC-DC board. This kit includes all electrolytic capacitors used in these supplies, and two capacitors have been upgraded to a 105 deg.C rating as they are in a particularly hot running area of the 940S (AVR board). Replacing these capacitors now will not only prevent failure in the future, but also reduces the possibility of a component failure taking out rectifiers or even a power transformer.
Included in the kit is an installation guide. In the case of the TS-940S, replacing the power supply filter capacitors is a relatively simple task for the hobbyist.
Technical Notes:
** There is no retuning of the radio required as the capacitors being changed are power supply related.
** Installation Time is approximately 4 hours from start to finish for an experienced technician. For all others, take your time and enjoy. Its a great project!
The kit is comprised of 19 capacitors in all.
